The present handbook is the result of close co-operation between scientific research and practice.In chapter I the handbook explains the historical evolution and the existing legal foundations of the international humanitarian law.Chapters 2-10 describe tha law of the conduct of military operations in all theatres and at all levels.Chapter 11 contains rules of the law of neutrality cocerning the the protection af the victims of armed conflict.Chapter 12 describes and evaluateds measures to ensure respect for international humanitarian law.
